There are two historic Civil War forts located near Perdido Key that are perfect for adventurers and history gurus alike. Fort Barrancas, a Confederate fort, is located on NAS Pensacola. Overlooking the entrance to Pensacola Bay stands Fort Barrancas. It was built with six million bricks with walls four feet thick and 20 feet high! The fort was completed in 1844 and remains an example of military engineering.
